Colombian singer Nelson Pinedo was best known for his time with Cuban orchestra La Sonora Matancera, replacing Puerto Rican singer and Ansonia artist Daniel Santos as lead vocalist in the mid-1950s.

Nicknamed the "Admiral of Rhythm," he had the ability to sing everything from mambo to bolero, introducing Colombian rhythms such as porro and cumbia into La Sonora Matancera's repertoire.

In the 1960s, Pinedo recorded two albums for Ansonia, the first of which, "Ahora me toca a mí..." is now available for streaming and digital download.

Accompanying the tenor from Barranquilla, Colombia on this 1964 album are the Memo Salamanca Orchestra and Chucho Rodriguez Orchestra.

Wishing you a safe, healthy, joyous and abundant New Year!

Christmas compilation album "Navidad en el Tropico," originally released on vinyl in 1957, is now available to stream and download.

Music is essential to Puerto Rican Christmas traditions, and as such Ansonia is home to a large number of Christmas recordings. This is Ansonia's first digitally released Christmas compilation, intentionally timed for listeners around the world to enjoy and celebrate the classic Christmas offerings of the island.

Highlights of the album are Ramito's A Los Borincanos, Toñin Romero's Mi Bohio De Matojo, and Julita Ross' Esta Navidad.

¡Feliz Navidad! May you all have a blessed and musical holiday season.

Although Ansonia Records has been around since 1949, the label stopped recording new material in 1990 and focused these past three decades on releasing old recordings on CD. This year, Ansonia Records is finally available digitally, both streaming and for downloading.

Current efforts are being put into digitizing and mastering from original source tapes, and albums will be continually added to streaming platforms. It will be a long process to get the label's entire catalog online, as it is a decades-worth of material! But, there are plans for vinyl releases of some favorites in the coming year.

Stay tuned and keep an eye out on this page for announcements of new releases.
